EXPLORING OUR PAST PROJECTS

Since its inception in 2014, Artology has played a pivotal role in nurturing artists and bolstering creative communities. Our commitment has spanned across a diverse array of creative development projects in music, film, and performing arts, laying a solid foundation for innovation and artistic excellence.

Very Short Film Festival

Founded by Artology, the Very Short Film Festival (VSFF) continues today as a national celebration of Australian stories and diverse voices through the art of short filmmaking. Each year it runs a national competition, culminating in a showcase of finalist films that tour across the country.

More than a festival, VSFF is a platform for creativity and community — connecting audiences with bold new stories and providing opportunities for Australian filmmakers to develop and share their work.

Fanfare

Fanfare was our flagship program, running successfully for over ten years. It cultivates the creative potential of young people through experiential learning in symphony compositions. This distinguished program, which won the 2016 APRA and Australian Music Centre ‘Art Music Award’ for Excellence in Music Education, offers participants a unique blend of composition, mentoring, and significant exposure, enhancing their musical talents and education.

The Passion Films

A series of intimate short films that spotlight some of Australia’s most thrilling actors in exclusive performances. These commissioned works explore and reimagine key texts and performance modes within contemporary settings, offering a fresh take on artistic expression.

Raw Indigenous Filmmakers

After a nationwide call for applications, Artology supported mentoring and writers’ workshops with top industry professionals. Enoch Mailangi, the program’s successful applicant, developed “All My Friends Are Racist,” a 5-part series starring Leah Purcell, aired on ABC iView and ABC TV in 2021.

ReMix

Produced two exceptional performance art pieces by teenage artists collaborating with professional artists under the guidance of Cathy Milliken (former head of education at the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra). Inspired by masterpieces such as Picasso’s “Les Demoiselles d’Avignon” and Shelley’s “Frankenstein,” these young creators translated the radical ideas of these works into new forms of visual art, music, literature, film, and choreography.

Requiem

A project created by artist Janet Lawrence and presented during the 2021 Sydney Festival. Artology commissioned William Barton, Veronique Serret, and Delmae Barton to craft a piece reflecting on the 2020 NSW bushfires, resulting in a poignant film that captures the essence of this historic event.

The Squid Festival

Squid Festival, held in Triabunna, Tasmania was a vibrant fusion of food, music, art, and science aimed at raising awareness about ocean conservation. Partnering with Spring Bay Mill and supported by Arts Tasmania and Festivals Australia, the festival featured the Tasmanian Ocean Summit, Big hART’s Squid Theory performance, and Beaker Street’s Science Bar, engaging audiences of all ages to connect with the ocean and embrace sustainable practices.

The Drover’s Wife: The Legend of Molly Johnston

This film received support from Artology through the management of its fundraising campaign, undertaken on behalf of Oombarra Productions. Watch the official trailer for a glimpse of this remarkable film.

WotOpera

Provided a unique in-school and music camp experience over nine years, allowing students to collaborate in crafting their stories, composing music, and designing the stage for their productions. This intensive workshop culminated in 20-minute music theatre works showcased at professional venues, encapsulating the students’ creativity and hard work.

Yungstr

Encourages young voices by supporting the writing, production, and performance of satirical works. This program empowers youth to explore and express their perspectives on social issues through humour and creativity, fostering a new generation of critical thinkers and artists.
